Every year the sport of kicking cattle's patella is held among Mongolians. Since a whole cattle's patella is dyed into red, the sport is thus called Kicking Wulan (the red color in Mongolian).

As the legend goes, the activity is held to commemorate the battlefield success of Genghis Khan by the Mongolians. The "ear side" (there are altogether four sides on the irregular patella, including the heart, back, eye and ear sides) of a patella is dyed into red with blood symbolizing the fire of eternal life and success. Ever since then, the activity of praying for success emerged into a pure sport over the long Mongolian history and has been held every year. Since people began to dye the whole patella into red, the sport was also called "Kicking Wulan".
