Located in the center of Sichuan Province, Chengdu is the provincial capital of Sichuan, as well as China’s cultural and historic city. In ancient times it was the territory of the State of Shu. After Qin merged the State of Ba and the State of Shu, it established Shu Prefecture in these areas. And cities were built. Chengdu Plain is the largest plain in southwest China. The irrigation network formed by Dujiangyan Water Conservancy Project on the Minjiang River fans out in the vast stretch of the Chengdu Plain, making it a land of abundance that “is free of drought and flood and knows of no hunger and starvation”.

Chengdu is an important birthplace of the ancient Shu State culture. The large quantities of cultural relics of ancient Shu State currently excavated show that, as early as in the Shang and Zhou dynasties, people in ancient Shu State had created highly advanced bronze culture, which constituted an important part of Chinese culture.

Chengdu is a famous cultural city in China. The culture in Chengdu has been influencing the Chinese people all over the world. Even many people in Korea and Japan are keen on the Three Kingdoms culture in Chengdu. Profound and intensive, the culture in Chengdu, which includes the cultures of eating, leisure, tea, Taoism, and Three Kingdoms, has exerted a great influence on the Chinese people.

In 2006, Chengdu was awarded the title of “China’s Best Tourist City” by the State Tourism Bureau and International Tourism Organization in the first batch of such activities for its unique ecological environment like Jiuzhaigou Valley, Giant Panda zone, Dujiangyan Water Conservancy Project, Qingcheng Mountain, etc and for its culture of ancient Shu represented by the Sanxingdui Site and the Jinsha Site.
