Shaoxing is among the first batch of the famous cities of China’s history and culture and the first group of China’s excellent tourist cities. And it is an ancient city located in the mid-north part of Zhejiang Province with a history of nearly 2500 years. Shaoxing boasts its characteristics of folk-customs and life styles, beautiful natural scenery, profound cultural deposit and generations of celebrities. Being granted the title as “Land of Waters”, “Land of Wines”, “Land of Bridges”, “Land of Calligraphy”, “Land of Traditional Opera”, “Land of Celebrities”, Shaoxing is regarded as a famous classic city located at the lower reaches of the Yangtze River in southern China. The city of Shaoxing covers 8256 square kilometers. It has six administrative divisions, Yuecheng District, Shaoxing County, Shangyu City, Shengzhou City, Xinchang County, and Zhuji City with a population of 4,340,000. Downtown of Shaoxing covers 339 square kilometers, including 640,000 citizens. It has a tropical and subtropical humid monsoon climate and a rainfall of 1300 millimeter annually. It is north of Qiantang River with meandering Chao'e River across it, and is a famous watery region in south China. |
