The Great Wall is like a gigantic flying dragon, and Qinhuangdao is a city that lies at the “dragon’s head” extending to the sea. The city got its name due to the fact that in 215 BC, China’s first emperor Qinshihuang arrived at the place on an eastern tour, during which he ordered some people to sail from the site to seek elixir of life. Qinhuangdao is the only city in China to be named after the title of an emperor.

Located in northeastern Heibei Province, Qinhuangdao has long been known as “the Back Garden of Beijing and Tianjin”. The city is rich in tourist resources, including the Great Wall, coastal scenery and eco-friendly areas. Over 40 tourist destinations with special charm draw tens of millions of visitors from home and abroad every year. Popular sites include the Shanhai Pass, a first class national cultural site, Beidaihe, a famous summer resort, Nandaihe Tourist Holiday Zone, Changli Golden Coast etc.

In Qinhuangdao, there are undulating mountains and the Great Wall meandering through the whole city. The Qinghuangdao section is one of the best parts of the Great Wall. Other sites like the Old Dragon’s Head, the No.1 Pass in the World, Longevity Mountain, the Great Wall at Jiaoshan Mountain and Meng Jiangnv’s Temple are usually on tourists’ must-visit list. And the world-famous tourist destination Beidaihe is a picturesque place with green mountains and clear waters. It is certainly a not-to-be-missed site.
