Located in southern Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan, it was included into the World Network of Biosphere Reserves in 2003.

The reserve enjoys sunny weather most of the time. It embodies gorgeous natural beauty and is particularly famous for its ancient relics of ice mass-the “Daocheng Ancient Ice Cap”. Daocheng, or Paddy City, was named “Daoba” (Paddy Dam) in ancient times, and means “the land exposed to the sun” in local Tibetan language. Looking into the distance from Yading, 1145 lakes as blue as jade of the high altitudes are scattered among the craggy ripraps, constituting an imposing view in front of you.
