Song Dynasty
Ink and color on silk
28.4*28cm

By the lotus pond in deep autumn, a female crab crawls on a withered lotus leaf half submerged in water, disturbing the water and causing ripples to form, where the yellowing knotweed, reed, waterweeds and lotus presage autumn. The undulating but determined lines are sure signs of an accomplished painter, while the fine, delicate leaf veins and patterns bob under the weight of the crab. The painter captures vividly a dynamic tableau.
