Landscape Painting mainly includes Ink and Wash Landscape, Blue and Green Landscape, Boneless and Light Purple Red Landscape. Ink and Wash Landscape Paintings were already developed during the Wei and Jin dynasties, but they were attached to human figure paintings serving as their background. In the Tang Dynasty, they emerged as an independent genre and Landscape Paintings of Ink and Wash, Blue Water and Green Mountains enjoyed great popularity. Paintings with rich colors were made possibly by the use of mineral green, azure, vermilion, etc. Sometimes the color of umber was added to the trees, villages, autumn grass or mountain peaks to reflect sunlight. A soft and warm atmosphere was thus created on the painting and the painting with this technique was called Light Purple Red Landscape. |
