Flowers and Birds is a broad term used in a wide range. It includes flowers, bamboo, trees, fruit, melons, vegetables, rocks, birds, animals, insects, fish, etc. Many masters in this field each had their own strong point. Huang Quan of the Five Dynasties paid much attention to detail. Zhao Chang of the Northern Song Dyansty painted realistically and was best known for flowers and fruit. Emperor Huizong of the Northern Song also emphasized life-like observation and produced some unsurpassed pieces on flowers and birds. Wang Mian of the Yuan Dynasty chose plum flowers to deliver his retreating ideal. |
