The small-sized enjoyable sculpture of the Ming and Qing Dynasties is a kind of decorative sculpture, and also called a display sculpture on the desk.

The small-sized enjoyable sculptures of the Ming and Qing are made of various materials such as wood, clay, porcelain, brick, bamboo, jade, bone, horn, tooth, and kernel. The most famous ones include the porcelain carving of Dehua Kiln of Fujian Province, the pottery sculpture of Shiwan Kilin of Guangdong Province, Bamboo sculpture of Jiading and Nanjing of Jiangsu Province, Chaozhou woodcarving of the east of Guangdong Province, the clay sculptures of Wuxi, Suzhou and Tianjin.

Some subjects of these sculptures are gained from the religion such as Kwan-yin Bodhisattva, arhat, bodhidharma, the god of longevity, the Eight Immortals, etc., while most of them are adopted from the popular fictions, dramas or historical stories, and a few originated from the people's daily life. These sculptures more or less reflect the good wishes of the people.

The small-sized enjoyable sculptures of the Ming and Qing Dynasties are designed in a simple and lively way. The sculpture, generally small sized and exquisitely crafted, is a light spot on the sculpture art of the Ming and Qing Dynasties, representing the new achievement of the sculpture art of this period.
