By Jingdezhen Kiln of the Chenghua Reign, Ming Dynasty
Height: 18.1cm
Diameter: 4.2cm
Base diameter: 8.5cm

Owing to its delicate paste and bright color, the "doucai" (contending colors) wares produced in the Chenghua Period of the Ming Dynasty were rare treasures of ancient China. It also represented the highest quality in porcelain craftsmanship of the time. Vases of this type were usually produced by order of the royal house. Catering to the emperors's tastes, they were always quite small in size and delicate in shape. As for this vase kept by the Shanghai Museum, it could be regarded as "the giant" of "doucai" wares manufactured during the Chenghua Period in the Ming Dynasty.
