By Jingdezhen Kiln of the Yongzheng Reign, Qing Dynasty With a slightly raised design of two dragons admist clouds, the jar has acquired the effect of decoration in shallow relief. The delicacy and precision in making the piece as well as the exquisite handicraft are also praiseworthy. Ever since the Yongle and Xuande periods, in the Ming Dynasty, the Jingdezhen Kiln had succeeded in turning out celadon wares. The most outstanding were light greenish blue, pea green and Chinese ilex green color pieces, although they all modeled after well-known products by the Longquan Kiln during the Song and Yuan Dynasties. However, most of the replicas produced during the Ming Dynasty were small pieces, including bowls, plates and small circular dishes. As for the bigger ones, they were all turned out during the Qing Dynasty. Endowed with pea green color, this jar looks identical to genuine Song or Yuan Dynasty pieces. However, its glaze is more pure and bright and its paste is finer and smoother. This fact shows that the artisans of the Ming and Qing dynasties had already attained a high level in the field of modeling after the glaze wares produced by Longquan Kiln. |
