Longshan Culture
Height: 10.3cm

May be used as one of the gods worshipped by the ancients during the period of Longshan Culture (a late Neolithic culture that dates back about 4,000 years), this statue of Jade figure was carved with a three-dimensional effect. Standing erect in an obeisant manner by cupping one hand in the other before the chest, the expression of this figure is both dignified and awe-inspiring. The whole statue was made with highly polished jade. With its high craftsmanship this ancient piece of carving was of high artistic value.

Longshan Relics were first discovered at Longshan Town in Shandong Province. It covered the lower reaches of the Yellow River. Of all the relics unearthed in this area, the most representative are ceremonial articles and weapons used by nobles. The jade knife with many holes is also quite particular. The artisans of that period attained a high level carving techniques, including the selection of materials, cutting, polishing and drilling.
