In the early period of jade culture in China, almost all jade ware was used as daily articles such as jade needle and jade buckle etc.

After jade was exclusively used as sacrificial objects and ornaments, it usually appeared in the form of ritual objects and ornaments. Only the jade wine cup, case, pillow, hooker and seal for the imperial use as well as the jade pedants like jade belt could still be used as daily articles.

Until the Ming and Qing Dynasties, jade ware was greatly popularized and many jade-made daily articles appeared, such as jade pot, jade bowl and jade cresset. There were some jade-made articles used by scholars at the study such as jade wash and jade paper weight. Some even made jade into ink stone. Actually, jade is so rigid and fine that it is not ideal for ink stone making. The fact revealed that jade articles were prevailing at that time.
