The hoof-shaped ring is unadorned, made of translucent jadeite of a nice color. 

Originally, rings were used by court ladies of ancient times to ward off evil spirit and later evolved into women's ornaments. The rings worn by the Qing-Dynasty empress and concubines were mostly made of gold, platinum and jadeite, with some inlaid with precious stones, pearls etc.
