Qing Dynasty The pair of archer's rings is cylinder shaped, with one piece having a gold lining inside, which is polished round along the rim at the top and leveling with the jade piece at the bottom. The rings are completely unadorned. An archer's ring was originally a device especially designed to protect the archer's thumb when shooting an arrow. It was later used as an ornament in most cases. Such rings were popular in the Qing Dynasty and they were mostly made of jade, jadeite, gold and silver, with some engraved with patterns and poems. This pair of archer's rings was for the exclusive use of the emperor. Made of lustrous jadeite of pure color, the rings are master jadeite works. |
