Sima Guang (1019-1086) was a Northern Song-Dynasty historian and high chancellor from Sushui Township of Xiaxian County in Shanzhou (present-day northeastern Anyi Town in Yuncheng of Shanxi). Sima Guang's historical works include the Zizhi Tongjian (Comprehensive Mirror to Aid in Government) of 294 volumes, the Kaoyi (Investigations into Differences) of 30 volumes, and an index of another 30 volumes, the Simplified Version of the Zizhi Tongjian of 80 volumes, the Liniantu (Chart of Successive Years) of 7 volumes, the Jigulu (Records of Ancient History) of 20 volumes, and the Benchao Baiguan Gongqing Biao (An Outline of the Official System of this Dynasty) of 6 volumes. The Zizhi Tongjian was the most famous historical work in chronological style. Sima Guang's works were in the Collection of Works by Sima Wenzheng Gong. |
