Bao Zheng (999 - 1062), born in Hefei, Luzhou Prefecture of the Northern Song Dynasty (present Feidong of Anhui Province), was the model and representative of honest and upright official in ancient China. Bao Zheng was born in an official family. As he was upright and incorruptible, the aristocrats and eunuchs would restrain from doing something illegal. Bao Zheng was called "Lord Bao", "Bao Qingtian (referring to just judge)" by the commoners. Various stories, novels, and plays about Lord Bao handling cases have come up one after another and extended until now. |
