Genghis Khan ("Genghis" means "ocean" or "powerful", and "Khan" means the king), named Tiemuzhen, was a great statesman and militarist in the Mongolian history.

In 1206, Genghis Khan founded Mongol Empire and was elected as the Khan of the empire. He unified the tribes on the Mongolian Plateau. During his reign, he issued code to maintain the interests of the aristocrats. Moreover, he led the valiant Mongolian army to launch wars against other states, destroyed successively Jin and Liao, conquered a vast region which reached the coast of the Black Sea in the west and included almost the entire East Asia in the east, and established one of the well-known empires that crossed the European and Asian continents in the world history.

In 1227, Genghis Khan conquered the Xixia Kingdom and died of illness in the same year at the Liupan Mountain. After the Yuan Dynasty was founded, he was honored as Emperor Taizu of Yuan.
