At 8:00pm, October 1st, 1949, as many as 300,000 soldiers and ordinary people of the capital city Beijing gathered on Tiananmen Square for the grand nation founding ceremony. Chairman Mao Zedong raised the first five-star flag on the square and read the proclamation of the Central People's Government, solemnly declaring the foundation of the great People's Republic of China to the whole world. |
