Originated from about 2.5 million years till 10,000 years ago, the Paleolithic Age was a material culture development stage of human beings symbolized by forging stone implements. It is generally divided into three stages - the early, middle and late periods. The human beings during the three periods on the whole, were equal to the Homo habilis and Homo erectus stage, the early Homo sapiens stage and the late Homo sapiens stage respectively. The Paleolithic Age Culture is widely distributed worldwide. Because of varied regions and times as well as imbalanced development, it presents huge discrepancy between different regions.

China is a country with a long history. Over 1 million years ago, the ancestors of the Chinese nation had already lived and grown on this land, creating a splendid culture to be continued. The most typical primitives during the Paleolithic Age within China were the early Homo erectus Yuanmo Men, Lantian Men and Peking Men, the early Homo sapiens Dingcun Man and late Homo sapiens Upper Cave Man.

Moreover, the famous Paleolithic Age cultural sites in China are the Ordos Man Site in Inner Mongolia, Ziyang Man Site in Sichuan, Changyang Man Site in Hubei, Liujiang Man Site in Guangxi, and Maba Man Site in Gunagdong.
