The site of ancient Beiting City is situated about ten kilometers north to Jimusar County, Jizhou Prefecture, Xinjiang. It is one of the largest ancient sites currently existing to the north of the Tianshan Mountain. The Site was expanded on the basis of Jinman City built by Cheshihou Kingdom of the Han Dynasty. The extant site is magnificent in scale and slightly square in size. It measures 1500 meters from south to north, and the remnant city wall is about seven meters high and five meters wide. Within the site of the ancient city, the former government office, pagoda and temple, streets and markets are vaguely discernible, and bricks ends, rubbles, and pottery pieces are covered everywhere. |
