Shishuo Xinyu is a literary sketch for recording words and deeds of scholar-bureaucrat compiled by literati convened by Liu Yiqing of the Southern Dynasty. Original Shishuo Xinyu consists of eight volumes, and the existing editions are three volumes. The whole book is divided into 36 categories, such as moral conduct, speech, government affairs, literature, light slander and so on. It is a record of idle talkers' words and deeds from East Han to East Jin Dynasty. Shishuo Xinyu fully recorded the prevalent metaphysis during Wei and Jin Periods as a social tide of thought. The book language is lively, concise and comprehensive, in which there are many famous proverbs and sayings. |
