Among the famous tragedies created in the early period of the Yuan Dynasty, Orphan of the Zhao Family by Ji Junxiang is one of the works whichhad the strongest dramatic conflict and thickest tragic color. This play is not only performed on today's drama stage, but also had been published and adapted in Europe into German, French, and Russian and English languages as early as in the 18^th century.

The story of Orphan of the Zhao Family was from historical literature like Zuo Qiuming's Chronicles (Zuo Zhuan) and Historical Records.
