As a literary form that is matched with music, the Song Poetry is also called as “Folksong-type Song Poetry“ or “Long and Short Sentences“. It originated from the Tang Dynasty and became popular and prosperous in the Song Dynasty. There are two kinds of Song Poetry -- Short Ream and Slow Song Poetry. Every Song Poem is divided into the first half and second half. The Song Poetry was sung by matching with the music at the earlier time, and later was separated from the music gradually and became a style name that was similar to poem. Poetry of the Song Dynasty came from the folklore and abstracted elite from The Book of Songs, Chuci, Music Conservatory and the Poetry of Tang Dynasty. There is a fixed tune name in each Song Poetry. The tune is a code for the music of the Song Poetry and it determines the format of the Song Poetry without indicating the content of the Song Poetry. At present, there have been more than one thousand of tunes, which indicate that Song Poetry is a free and changeable style. As epitomizing the thought of the Poetry, the Poetry of the Song Dynasty represents the literary achievements of the Song Dynasty and is called as the superb works of Chinese ancient literature with the Poetry of the Tang Dynasty. The Poetry of the Song Dynasty is divided into a graceful and restrained school and a bold and unconstrained school. The Poems of these two styles are different from each other on the themes, styles, use of tone and the creation methods. The representatives on the graceful and restrained school are the last emperor Li Yu of the Nantang Dynasty and the poetess Li Qingzhao of the Song Dynasty, etc. The representatives on the bold and unconstrained school are Su Shi, Xin Qiji and Yuefei, etc. The Poetry of the Song Dynasty is a brilliant gigantic diamond in the Chinese ancient literature crown. She inherits the elite of the ode of the former prose and poetry and injects organic elements into the later dramas and novels of the Ming and Qing Dynasty. Till now, she still edifies the sentiment of modern people. |
