Appreciation of Yuan and Ming Lacquerwork(1)

Ming dynasty

Diameter: 9.5cm

Qing Dynasty
Height: 10.5cm

It is carved in relief with a continuous scene of two scholars seated in a boat under an awning with two attendants. The one in the bow is fanning the fire under a wine pot, while the boatman in the stern is poling the vessel through the choppy waters of the river. There are rocks and trees in the background, a slightly rounded band of petal lappets above, and a band of key fret on the flat rim. The interior is painted in black lacquer and the base in brown lacquer.
