Qianlong period, Qing Dynasty The top is well carved with a five-clawed dragon leaping around a flaming pearl amidst swirling clouds within narrow key-fret and petal lappet borders. The rounded sides are carved with two pairs of five-clawed dragons in pursuit of further flaming pearls, with two further pairs of dragons and flaming pearls above a band of rocks and waves on the sides of the box. All is carved through the red and brownish-green layers to the ochre ground and between key-fret borders. The interior and base are lacquered black. |
