Kangxi period, Qing Dynasty
Diameter: 11.2cm

These square plates come in a set of five. Each is covered all over with a shiny black lacquer and inlaid with a picture that tells a story. The inlaid material includes coloured mother-of-pearl, turquoise, soapstone etc. Of the five, four have inscriptions on the back, but one has it erased. Lacquerware with inlaid requires a lot of work and excellent skills, and does not keep well. The set is exceptional as the pieces are in fine shape.
