The lacquer ware of the Han Dynasty is elaborate in manufacturing, bright in color, elegant in pattern and delicate in decoration. The lacquer ware with ramie cloth body is the masterpiece of the Han Dynasty lacquer wares.

Ramie cloth body is the lacquer body wrought with ramie textiles. First wood or clay will be molded into the desired shapes and used as inner molds. Then layers of ramie or silk cloth will be bound around the inner molds, with each layer coated with lacquer. When the lacquer dries and becomes solid, the inner molds will be removed, and the ramie cloth lacquer ware comes into being.

Ramie cloth lacquer ware is solid, strong, elaborate and easily molded. According to archeological discoveries, the manufacture of lacquer ware with ramie cloth body began at least since the Warring States Period.
