Appreciation of Yuan and Ming Lacquerwork(1) |
Qianlong period, Qing Dynasty The box is square, with four short feet at the four corners of the bottom. The whole body is coated with red lacquer and there are ten giant dragons partly hidden and partly visible among the surging waves engraved on the lid that is edged with one-legged dragon motifs. The wall of the box is carved with sea wave motifs. The name of the box "flying dragon treasure box" and its creation time "Emperor Qianlong's reign of the Qing Dynasty" are carved in regular script inside the lid and the box itself respectively. The box is exquisitely engraved, with excellent caring skills. It was made in Suzhou during Emperor Qianlong's reign of the Qing Dynasty. |
