Middle Qing Dynasty Shaped like a chime, the box is set on a stand of the same shape adorned with cloud and bat motifs. The whole body of the box is coated with red lacquer. On top of the lid, there's a big bat engraved. Under the bat, there are mountains in the distance and rivers nearby as well as towers and pine trees. On the left, there are four immortals standing on the tower and not far from the tower, there's an immortal with a flower basket approaching and another four immortals holding treasures like birthday peaches coming by treading on waves. On the right, there are two immortals arriving riding phoenixes. The picture depicts the scene of all immortals on their way to a birthday party. On the wall of the box, there are engraved mountains, pine trees, maple trees and several elderly people and children. There's a small box of the same shape inside the box. It's adorned with motifs of lotuses, bats and birthday peaches, etc. |
