Qing Dynasty Large and compressed circular box of tri-color lacquer, crimson, black and ochre, divided into two halves over a straight ring foot, central face dominated by relief carving of a massive "chun" character, for spring, emblazoned on the upper half with the immortal "Shou Xing", and suspended over a basket of symbolic treasures as well as flanked by flying dragons and clouds with a wan character brocade backdrop, ringed by classic scroll band, and four narrative reserve panels each on the upper and lower halves portraying stories of famous poets and painters in expressive and lively scenes, including Tao Yuanming, Li Bai, Wang Xizhi, etc. |
