Rectangular Vase of 90% Gold
Gold Bianzhong (chime bells)
The Gold and Silver Wares of Famen Temple
Gilt-silver hairpin inlaid with flowers of jadeite and tourmaline |
Qing Dynasty Made of 90% gold, the rectangular vase has an out-slanting mouth, short neck, narrow shoulder, contracted lower belly and splayed base. The patterns are modeled after those on bronze ware, with labyrinth motifs engraved all over as the background. The main motifs engraved on the front and back are taotie patterns. Twisted beast faces are engraved in areas below the mouth, above the base and on both sides. This vase is regular and solemn in style, with motifs similar to those of typical bronze ware of the Qing Dynasty, which fully demonstrates the luxury of utensils used in the imperial court. |
