Qianlong Period, Qing Dynasty The flat-square vase has a rectangular mouth and base, and the rim of the mouth is even. The two ears of the vase are in the shape of a lion. The vase is engraved with rhombic figures containing floral patterns inside. There are two branches of plum flowers inside the vase. The branches are made of gold, and the leaves are made of green jade. Each of the 80 flowers is made up of five pearls. The pistils are made of gold threads. The five petals of a plum flower symbolize joyousness, happiness, longevity, smoothness, and peace respectively. That's why there's a Chinese saying called "mei kai wu fu", which means "blooming plum flowers will bring five blessings". |
