Qing Dynasty The gourd-shaped perfumer is engraved with the characters of "xi" (happiness), "shou" (longevity) and swastikas (卐) in openwork as the background, against which the two characters "da" (great) and "ji" (auspicious) are carved in openwork in the middle. The edge is engraved with bats and ruyi patterns in cameo and there are gold chains attached to the top. The round base is in the shape of petals and there's a carved red sandalwood pedestal at the bottom. A perfumer is a device for fumigating clothes and quilts in ancient times. Made of different materials, most perfumers holding aromatic substances are engraved in openwork, making it easy for the pleasant smell to come out from the holes. This perfumer is beautifully shaped, elaborately made, and gorgeously adorned. |
