Gold statue of Manjusri inlaid with pearls and gems |
Qing Dynasty The hair crosspiece is like a long slip, with patterns on one side. There are tourmaline and jadeite-inlaid floral leaves and butterflies alternating with each other against the background carved with bamboo mat patterns, symbolizing "love between butterflies and flowers". The hair crosspiece is edged with a line of carved plum flowers and another line of string patterns. The head is inlaid with a pearl on both sides and a jadeite bat in the middle. There's a mark at the back indicating its maker "Xinchangxing" in "eastern Guangdong" and its "pure-gold" quality. This hair crosspiece is made of pure gold in Guangdong, with elaborate patterns and good symbolic meanings. |
