Qianlong Period, Qing Dynasty The whole set of chime bells are of the same shape and size. Each bell is hollow inside and has a round body, a slightly big waist, an even rim at the bottom and a double-dragon knob at the top. The bell is engraved with patterns all over the body, with clouds on top and dragons playing with a pearl in the middle. There are tone names inscribed in seal script in relief on the front and the date mark of "Qianlong Wushiwu Nian Zhi" (the 55th year of Emperor Qianlong's reign) at the back. There are eight tone buttons at the bottom for striking, with carved cloud patterns in longitudinal symmetry between every two buttons. |
