Vast in territory and plentiful in products, the Chu State in the south is strong and prosperous during the Warring States Period. It is the first state to use gold as currency. The coins had no standardized form and their value were decided by their weight. Such gold money is called gold plates today. According to the inscriptions carved on them, six kinds of gold plates have been discovered, including "Lu Jing" and others. |
