Qing Dynasty
Made by Liuzhou
Length: 20.2cm, width: 10.9cm, height: 3.6cm

Signed Liuzhou in running script. Quarried from Meihuakeng, the dark purple stone is unique with its green mottling. The top is inscribed in seal script with the characters for prunus pond, with the signature and seal of the monk Liuzhou. A poem describing a prunus plant in misty rain viewed from a scholar's studio is inscribed in running script on the side of the inkstone. The underside of the piece is inscribed in seal script with the characters wind, rain, mist and waves. The descriptions bring out the characteristics of the inkstone in typical literary allusions.
