Qing Dynasty The pot is covered in gold filigree double rings. The area below the edge is filled with blue enamel and inlaid with rubies, and it is made into the shape of a ruyi with seed pearls. The four sides of the pot are embedded with emeralds, tourmalines and rubies, forming the pattern of "zisun wandai, fushou mianchang" (meaning "fortune and longevity accompanying generation after generation"). Inside the pot, mountain rocks, dahlias and plum flowers form the scene symbolizing "qimei zhushou" (meaning "a happy couple and longevity"). The mountain rocks are a silver filigree work decorated with kingfisher feathers and inlaid with gems of various colors, including red, blue, yellow etc. The tree is made of red coral, the plum flowers are made of pearls, rubies and sapphires, and the dahlias fruits are made of coral beads. Over 300 pearls and gems are used in the artwork with superb craftsmanship. |
