Qing Dynasty The pot is rectangular in shape, with an indented cornered base and a dou (a Chinese measure for grain)-shaped belly that is wide on top and narrow at the bottom. The edge of the pot is engraved with ruyi patterns and the entire body is decorated with the Buddhist swastikas and thunder patterns as a background. The pot is ringed with a line of carved "shou" ("longevity") characters and ruyi patterns in cameo. The center piece of the landscape is a lifelike plum tree of a gilt copper trunk, emerald leaves and ruby flowers. Around the tree, there are lake rocks of lapis lazuli and agate, gem-inlaid lingzhi, evergreen trees of jade leaves and coral beads, and camellias and grass of agate. The potted landscape is tastefully arranged and full of life. |
