Wanli Period, Ming Dynasty Woven with thin bamboo threads coated with lacquer, the body of the coronet is adorned with ruyi cloud chips embedded with kingfisher feathers, surrounded by 18 plum flowers made of pearls and gems. In the front of the coronet, there's a pair of turquoise blue flying phoenixes with wings widespread, setting off the three gold-wired treasure-holding dragons serving as tassels. At the back of the coronet, there are six wings of "earlocks" made of pearls and gems, spreading to the left and right like a fan. The edge of the coronet is ringed with ruby-inlaid flowers. A total of over 100 rubies and sapphires and 5,000-plus pearls of different sizes are used in the bright-colored and luxurious phoenix coronet. The coronet, worn by the Empress at grand ceremonies, can be called a coronet of treasures. |
