Qing Dynasty The lingyue is shaped like a ring with a movable opening. It's composed of three segments, two of which are gilt-silver and carved with cloud-and-bat patterns and "shuangxi" (double happiness) characters. The other one is made of red coral and adorned with cloud patterns and "shuangxi" characters that are covered with kingfisher feather-decorated silver. The "shuangxi" characters are inlaid with rubies and tourmalines. Two silk ribbons are tied to the movable opening and stringed with a red coral knot carved with dragons and "shou" (longevity) characters. Each ribbon has a red coral pendant at the bottom. There are a total of 10 units of seed pearls inlaid on the ribbons. Lingyue, or neck ring, is used to fasten the collar of the dress. This lingyue was worn by the Qing-Dynasty empress or concubines to go with a formal dress. |
