Qianlong Period, Qing Dynasty The jar is round and has a ruby-inlaid knob in the shape of a pearl at the top and a disk-like tray and a bowl-like base at the bottom. The cover is decorated with three layers of patterns, with the first layer being ruby-inlaid and filigree lotus petals, the second layer ruby-inlaid plum blossoms and filigree floral vines, and the third layer ruby-inlaid floral leaves. The jar has a straight mouth and a deflated belly, with the edge and the bottom ringed with rubies on the outer surface. The belly is inlaid with melon-shaped patterns, with ruby-inlaid flowers and filigree floral vines inside. The disk-like tray has a petal-shaped edge and decorated with ruby-inlaid and gold-wired petals inside and lotus petals outside. The base at the bottom shaped like an upside-down bowl is adorned with gold-wired lotus petal patterns embedded with ruby crabapple flowers. The making of this jar involves a variety of techniques, including hammering, enameling, inlaying etc. The jar, featuring its superb craftsmanship, regular shape and patterns as well as bright color, is a Tibetan-style work of art made in Qianlong Period of the Qing Dynasty. |
