Stands Selling Cakes and Deep-fried Twisted Dough Sticks
In around the Western Han Dynasty, people began to make kernels into different flour products...
In the past, there were sampans ferrying across the Huangpu River. The sampans were narrow at the fore and wide at the stern, and three passengers could be accommodated on the plank board in the middle, which was covered by an awning held up by bamboo strips. The fore would be painted red while the stern would turn up high. The boatman would stand at the stern rowing the sampan with the scull instead of the oar. There was another kind named “Huazi” (a kind of cargo boat) which mainly carried cargoes. The boatman would row the boat alone with two paddles, getting the boat under control in the tide according to his experience. It would be extremely dangerous when great waves came. Cargo boat rowing is the most strenuous trade for those making a living on boat-related professions.
