Medical scientists in ancient China attached great importance to human anatomy and conducted researches on it. According to rich data found in Internal Canon of the Yellow Emperor (Huang Di Nei Jing) and Classic of Questioning (Nan Jing), the researches on anatomy by using corpses had began in as early as Warring States Period. Anthropotomy reached an all-time development during Northern Song Dynasty, when two large-scale autopsy practices were carried out successively and a lot more knowledge about autopsy was accumulated. Thus there emerged two collections of illustrations on anthropotomy – The Five Internal Organs of Ou Xifan (Ou Xifan Wuzang Tu) and Truth-retaining Illustrations (Cun Zhen Tu).
