Calligraphy in the Qing Dynasty |
The Qin Dynasty promulgated the "Shu Tong Wen" decree standardizing written Chinese. The authorities demanded that all characters inscribed on Xi and seal knobs be uniform. The regulations governing the making of official seals were even more strict in the Western Han Dynasty. During this period, strict standards were set for the design, size and material used for the seals of officials of different ranks. Most of the standards of this period lasted for a long time. Much attention was paid to the steady and harmonious designs on both the official and private seals. |
