The Tomb of Zhao Shudai in the Jin State

The Tomb of Zhao Shudai in the Jin State
Early in the 8th century B. C., Zhao Shudai went to the Jin State to seek shelter.
The emperor Wuding of Shang Dynasty with posthumous title “Gaozong“ was in the reign for 59 years, during which the Shang Dynasty reached its zenith, and this period of time was called “Wuding Resurgence“. When he was young, Wuding was sent by his father Xiao Yi to work with the working people and experience their life, through which he came to know about the sufferings of ordinary people. He ascended the throne in 1250 B.C. With the help of capable officers, he aroused all efforts to make the country prosperous and extended the territory of Shang Dynasty through massive wars and conquests. In order to control the conquered lands, Wuding enfeoffed his wife, sons, meritorious officers and allegiant leaders of minorities, which initiated the system of enfeoffment later in Zhou Dynasty. A large number of oracle bone inscriptions and bronze wares of Shang Dynasty discovered in Yin Ruins so far were created during the reign of Wuding, among which the biggest bronze artifact in the world-Si Mu Wu Bronze Quadrupod was the masterpiece of the time. What’s more, the first female general recorded in the history-Fu Hao was Wuding’s wife.
