Inscribed Stone at Langya Terrace
Ban Chao
Emperor Shun
Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty |
Established during Emperor Qin Shihuang's trip on Mount Langya in the 28th year of his reign, the stele was meant to pay a tribute to the virtuous of the emperor. The original stone is still preserved in the Temple of the Sea God in Zhucheng, Shandong. However, the ode to the Emperor Qin Shihuang as well as names of courtiers was no longer seen, leaving only the names of officials under Emperor the Second of the Qin and 13 lines of rescript. Written typically in small seal script, the lines feature mainly curves and rectangular-style lettering. The writing remains constant in stokes, representing a natural and graceful style. |
