The tomb of Hai Rui is located in Bangya Village of Haikou in Hainan province. It was first built in the 17th year of Wanli Period of the Ming Dynasty (1589). It is said that when his coffin was carried to the very site of his present tomb, the rope tied to the coffin broke off. People deemed that the site was the treasured place with good geomantic omen that Hai Rui chose for himself and thus they buried him there.
