Madame Gongsun was one of the most accomplished dancers in the Tang Dynasty and best known for her dance "The Sword". Whenever she staged a show, there were throngs and throngs of viewers. She was also invited to perform in the imperial court, where her skills were second to none. She created various versions of "The Sword" based on traditional sword dances. She was mentioned in the poem "On Seeing a Pupil of Madame Gongsun Dance the Sword" by the great Tang Dynasty poet Du Fu, thus her name was widely known. According to research, Madame Gongsun's sword dance was a kind of dance, and what she held in her hand while performing was a weapon similar to a sword.
